Introduction: Endurance training has significant effects on the renewal of heart tissue, including myosin heavy chain (MHC) proteins. On the other side, Purine-rich element-binding protein &beta (purB) decreases the &alphaMHC gene expression. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of exercise endurance training on purB gene expression in the heart of Wistar rats. Methods: Fourteen r...

Genetic analysis of a d-alanine requiring mutant (dal) of Bacillus subtilis reveals that the gene that codes for d,l-alanine racemase is linked to purB. The order of genes in this region of the chromosome is purB, pig, tsi, dal. Thus there are at least two clusters of genes that regulate cell wall biosynthesis in B. subtilis.

In Bacillus subtilis, the glutamyl-tRNA synthetase [L-glutamate:tRNA(Glu) ligase (AMP-forming), EC 6.1.1.17] is copurified with a polypeptide of M(r) 46,000 that influences its affinity for its substrates and increases its thermostability. The gene encoding this regulatory factor was cloned with the aid of a 41-mer oligonucleotide probe corresponding to the amino acid sequence of an NH2-termina...

The purB and purH mutants of Mesorhizobium loti exhibited purine auxotrophy and nodulation deficiency on Lotus japonicus. In the presence of adenine, only the purH mutant induced nodule formation and the purB mutant produced few infection threads, suggesting that 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide biosynthesis catalyzed by PurB is required for the establishment of symbiosis.

Chronic infections with Staphylococcus aureus such as septicemia, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and biofilm infections are difficult to treat because of persisters. Despite many efforts in understanding bacterial persistence, the mechanisms of persister formation in S. aureus remain elusive. Here, we performed a genome-wide screen of a transposon mutant library to study the molecular mechanisms ...

We isolated a strain of Escherichia coli K-12 in which the lac structural genes are fused to the purB control region and used this strain to study the regulation of the purA and purB loci. The purA locus was derepressed in response to either limiting adenine or guanine growth conditions in the presence of excess guanine or adenine, respectively. The presence of hypoxanthine in the culture mediu...

Recently, researchers have uncovered the presence of many long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in embryonic stem cells and believe they are important regulators of the differentiation process. However, there are only a few examples explicitly linking lncRNA activity to transcriptional regulation. Here, we used transcript counting and spatial localization to characterize a lncRNA (dubbed linc-HOXA1) lo...

A point mutation (E115K) resulting in slower growth of Escherichia coli DH5alpha and XL1-Blue in minimal media was identified in the purB gene, coding for adenylosuccinate lyase (ASL), through complementation with an E. coli K-12 genomic library and serial subcultures. Chromosomal modification reversing the mutation to the wild type restored growth phenotypes in minimal media.
